Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Science

Understanding photochemical processes at environmental interfaces to inform air quality and climate models.

Research Areas

Our group investigates photochemical processes across multiple environmental domains, from urban surfaces to ocean interfaces.

Air-Sea Interface

Photochemical reactions at the atmosphere-ocean boundary

Urban Surfaces

Light-induced heterogeneous processes on urban grime

Aqueous Phase

Processes in fog, clouds, and deliquescent aerosols

Indoor Chemistry

Chemical reactions in indoor environments

About Our Group

The Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Science group at GTIIT, led by Prof. Sasho Gligorovski, focuses on understanding and quantifying photochemical processes at environmental interfaces.

Our research spans from the sea-surface microlayer to urban building surfaces, from cloud droplets to indoor environments — providing critical data for regional and global models used in air quality assessment and climate change prediction.

Our Research Selected as Cover Article in ES:P&I

Our collaborative study examining reactions between ozone and indoor cleaning agents has been published in Environmental Science: Processes & Impacts and was selected as a cover article. The research reveals that these reactions produce secondary organic aerosols (SOA), highlighting potential indoor health risks that are often overlooked. As people spend roughly 90% of their time indoors, understanding these chemical processes is critical for assessing indoor air quality. This work underscores the importance of our research on indoor atmospheric chemistry and its direct relevance to public health.
